Seniors, Post Your Favorite Poems!

This is the last week before spring break, and I know we are all itching for that week to sleep in! However, I have an assignment for you seniors. We've spent the last week studying poets such as:

Russell Edson

John Ashbery

Gary Soto

Gwendolyn Brooks

Naomi Shihab Nye

Maxine Chernoff

Now it is your turn to share a favorite poet with the class. Your assignment for Friday is to find a youtube video of a fabulous poem being recited. Please comment to this post with a link to that video and explain why you enjoy it. We will watch them in class on Friday.

    I've always liked this poem. Every time I read it, a new meaning seems to surface. Most of all, I find it as a comfort, a reminder, that those who lead busy lives forget to take the time they had to actually live.

    I choose this poem because I like how they portray the poem in their video. By using their own ideas in their video it gives the reader a better understanding of the poem.

    I really like this poem, it's very sad.I have two separte clips. The first one is the actual poem, but the other has the poem with a music video. I thought having both the two show would give a better meaning of the poem.

    I chose this poem because I like the way the poem was animated onto screen. I like how descriptive the poem is. I also like it because it has some irony to it!

    I like this poem because there's so much to dissect and think about. Sylvia Plath is also very honest and her feelings are dramatically shown.

    This is a poem called "Float Like A Butterfly, Sting Like A Bee" and it is about Muhammad Ali before he had to fight George Foreman. I choose this poem because Muhammad ali is a hero of mine and he had a funny choice of words but tells it as it is.

    Anyways, I've always loved this poem, especially the repeated line and title, A Dream Within A Dream. I like the overall concept of the poem and the language used in it. Plus, Edgar Allan Poe was a genius.

    I like this poem because this army of 600 men knew they were going to die if they went to battle, yet because it was their duty to fight, they did it anyways. Even though someone had made a mistake, they didn't question why they still had to fight, they just did it. It was very noble and courageous.I also like this poem because it really happened and is talked about in the great movie, Blind Side.
